As a programmer during the day, I trust computers not at all So unless I'm prepared to bring a second laptop all set up exactly the same, I would be nervous-though as a keys player my backup plan might be to use a hardware synth as my controller. I bring extra power cords, cables etc so that I don't have a single point of failure. The second thing is that I like to have a backup plan for just about anything.I gig with two boards that can cover things (though they each have their area of strength), so if one goes down I'm still ok.
